Composed Abstraction™
Established by Joanna Wolthuizen
Composed Abstraction™ is my exploration of how colour, proportion, and geometry can hold emotional stillness within space.
Working through measured relationships of plane, tone, and interval, I construct compositions that are architectural rather than expressive. Emotion is not illustrated; it is formed through balance.
Each painting develops slowly, guided by intuition within constraint. Edges clarify, colour settles, and space becomes quiet enough for perception to deepen.
I am interested in abstraction as composure—where visual structure allows feeling to exist without narrative. In this way, the work functions less as image and more as presence: a spatial presence that steadies perception and invites sustained attention.
Through Composed Abstraction™, I seek a contemporary language of stillness in which geometry, colour, and silence resolve into equilibrium.
